Australia uses several skilled occupation lists, and the list that applies depends on the visa you are applying for. Your occupation must be on the right list for your visa, and most visas also need a positive skills assessment from the assessing authority for that occupation.
Which list applies to which visa?
- 189, 190 and 491 visas: the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). For the 190 and 491, each state and territory also publishes its own nomination list (see below).
- 482 Skills in Demand visa (Core Skills stream) and 186 Direct Entry stream: the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).
- 485 Post-Vocational Education Work stream: your qualification must relate to an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list, with a positive skills assessment.
- 494 Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa: see our 494 visa occupations list.
- DAMA and labour agreements: each agreement sets its own list of occupations.
